This large wall hanging was the result of a creative collaboration between myself and our daughter Lauren Godfrey, an artist working in sculpture, print, painting, and other media.
The weaving structure is lampas, probably my favourite weave, which uses two warps; one for the warp faced pattern, and the other a very thin, almost invisible thread that 'ties' weft and cloth together. It was used by weavers across the centuries in Venice, France and Persia and other places. The 3 sections were woven and hand stitched together to make an artwork that is 150 x 150cm. Lauren designed the patterns and made the 'wings' in brass, jesmonite and perspex. |
